Major Gen. Paul D. Moga, Third Air Force and Kaiserslautern Military Community commander, met with Lord Mayor of Kaiserslautern Beate Kimmel for an office call in Kaiserslautern on June 17. These leaders discussed a wide range of topics pertaining to the military and local populations living side by side.
During the meeting Lord Mayor Kimmel emphasized the need to better utilize the German-American Community Office and she welcomed the idea introduced by Maj. Gen. Moga of hosting an annual cultural event together with the General and John Constance of the “WiR! Program,” a state initiative that promotes and maintains German-American relations in the state of Rheinland-Pfalz.
Maj. Gen. Moga invited Lord Mayor Kimmel to visit Ramstein Air Base or a nearby U.S. Air Force installation to familiarize herself with operations, facilities, and positive developments.
Being new in office, Lord Mayor Kimmel emphasized the importance of better understanding and getting to know each other and suggested a future meeting with members of the Ministry of the Interior and for Sports.
Preventing DUIs and building awareness about alcohol and illegal substance consumption was a further topic on the agenda.
Maj. Gen. Moga pointed out that efforts should start at a grassroots level, for example focusing on educating newcomers and preparing them for life in Germany as a way to safeguard good neighborhood relations.
Maj. Gen. Moga is looking forward to engaging with Michael Ebling, Minister of the Interior and for Sports of Rheinland-Pfalz, in Mainz this July.
