Venice is the original pedestrian zone and is filled with countless shops, restaurants, museums and other attractions. With no tour guide or set schedule to follow, you will be able to explore this living museum however you see fit. Visit the glass museums on Murano, ride a water taxi or gondola in the Grand Canal, or shop on both sides of the Rialto Bridge. Regardless of what you plan for your day, make sure to visit Saint Mark’s Square, and remember to plan time into your schedule for when you eventually get lost (and you will!) in this beautiful maze of winding streets and canals. But don’t worry about getting lost, if you download a free e-travelguide from Army Libraries before you get to Venice, you will be able to easily find yourself again.

Board a kayak to enjoy the scenery and wildlife on one of German’s largest recreational lakes. This trip is designed for anyone interested in learning paddling technique, or to simply experience a day of nature on the water. Bring plenty of food and water, and dress according to weather.

Geierlay Suspension Bridge Hike

Enjoy a half day of hiking as we cross Germany’s longest suspension bridge (1181 feet long, 328 feet high!) which slowly sways across the forest over a tributary stream to the mighty Moselle River. After our hike we’ll drop down into the Moselle River corridor so you can explore the rich history that envelops the region. Bring cash euro for meals or a packed lunch to enjoy along your route. This trip will go rain or shine, so please pack accordingly.

Ruedesheim rhymes with wine for a reason; the “Encyclopedia of Wine” suggests this is the most important wine growing area in the world. Your day will start with a Rhine River ferry crossing before your full day of hiking begins! You will hike through the famed Riesling-covered hills to include breathtaking castles, scenic views along the Rhine and hiking through vineyards — elevation gains require a moderate ftness level. A pleasant gondola descent will bring you back into the heart of the picturesque village where you can explore, wine taste, or simply relax. Please pack a lunch, plenty of water and snacks for this memorable day along the Rhine!
