“Prison Break” escapee Rockmond Dunbar, also known as C-note, was on the loose June 25 and 26 at Ramstein.
***image1***The actor from the popular Fox television series, “Prison Break,” was eager to come to Ramstein with a mission of supporting the KMC through the Extreme Summer program hosted by the U. S. Air Forces in Europe Services organization.
Mr. Dunbar is a writer, director and actor who first hit the public eye in the 1998 movie “Misery Loves Company.” He had subsequent appearances in “The Practice” and “Felicity” before earning more substantial roles in “Soul Food” and blowing up on the big screen in “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.”
In 2005, Mr. Dunbar played his most compelling character yet on “Prison Break,” as a soldier who was imprisoned after returning to the States from his deployment in Kuwait, and manages to escape from the high-security prison. He also directed, produced and will be starring in an upcoming film called “Pastor Brown” which is scheduled to air in 2009.
Being in the spotlight gives a person the opportunity to reach out to the community and be a positive influence.
Mr. Dunbar agreed to be a part of the Extreme Summer Tour last year with plans of supporting the Air Force mission by personally going to the children’s level.
“The tour was presented to me in a way that I would be able to spend most of my time with the children,” said Mr. Dunbar. “I have always been a huge supporter of charity for the youth.”
When he was given the opportunity to spend time with children whose parents are deployed and to hang out with servicemembers, it was an easy decision. Although he had a serious case of jet lag, Mr. Dunbar was extremely ambitious to get out and meet the people. During his time here, he was interviewed and stopped at different locations to meet with the base’s community.
“One of the first things we did when we got here was stop by the youth center, and I was able to play some dodgeball with the kids,” said the Oakland native. “I had a blast getting out there with them.”
Mr. Dunbar was the second of four celebrities participating with the Extreme Summer Tour and making their way through different military installations around Europe. Extreme Summer Tour began nine years ago as a way to give American youth and teens in Europe a chance to participate in fun, wholesome summer activities during the months when school is out. The tour is an annual program open to all Department of Defense ID cardholders 8 years old and older. The program started June 1 and will run through Aug. 31 with more than $150,000 in prizes to win.
