Ramstein Airmen have seen a decline in their waistlines and an increase in their overall fitness levels recently. The Ramstein Northside Fitness Center staff offers free PT Boot Camp classes from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and it’s available for anyone who wants to participate. The class offers a combination of strength-training and cardio exercises to provide a total-body workout. The Oct. 10 class consisted of 42 different cross-training stations and was run by a volunteer instructor, Loriann Tierney.
“This kind of workout is particularly designed for getting ready for your PT test,” Tierney said. “A lot of people either lift weights and avoid cardio or run a lot and have issues with their push-ups.”
With a combination of strength training and cardio, Airmen will get a well-rounded workout that gets results, she said. “One of the best feelings is talking to someone who has been struggling with their PT test and after a few classes comes in and tells you they finally passed, or someone who says the class helped them greatly increase their scores,” Tierney said.
Mixing up the workouts is another way to keep Airmen motivated, she said.
“There is some really great equipment at this gym and it’s nice to have a wide variety of things to choose from,” Tierney said. Jamie Muniz, a two-month participant in the class, said she likes how the classes change from day to day.
“It’s great how the class combines strength training and cardio,” she said. “Since I started I have seen a drastic increase in my endurance.” Staff Sgt. Jeremy Brown, a fitness supervisor at the fitness center, said the staff is here to help with any fitness needs.
“We can adjust the workouts for your needs, even those people with profiles,” he said. “One of the benefits of this class is that you may not know you can still do this but you will get a good workout.” For more information on this and other classes offered, call the Northside Fitness Center at
