Quilt guild displays projects, demonstrates

***image1***The Rheinland-Pfalz Quilt Guild promoted their organization and quilts at the Landstuhl Library Oct. 15. The event was free and open to the public. Members of the guild provided the library with a beautiful display of quilted items ill-ustrating a variety of techniques as the Landstuhl Library featured books about quilting.

Gordon Ashlee, guild president, offered information and techniques to those who visited the program. Mr. Ashlee demonstrated fabric cutting using the latest quilting methods and demonstrated his designing process using grid paper.
Also on display was Mr. Ashlee’s personal quilting notebook, loaded with photos of his quilts and quilting patterns.

In addition to their meticulous talents, the guild provides an endearing personal service.

“We give a quilt to each wounded warrior and to the family members of Soldiers who have sacrificed their lives,” said Genevieve Chicka, guild secretary. The guild also makes quilts for babies in intensive care.

After seeing the demonstration, Katie Baldwin said, “I’ve come to the conclusion that not only are quilters very smart, they are very nice people with big hearts.”
The quilt guild meets at 9:30 a.m. every third Thursday of the month at the Ramstein North Chapel. Evening meetings are held at 6 p.m. every fourth Thursday of the month at the Kaisers-lautern-Landstuhl Spouses Association building, on the hill past Outdoor Recreation at Pulaski Barracks, unless otherwise noted.
