The 786th Force Support Squadron hosted tryouts for the Ramstein Women’s Volleyball Team at the Southside Fitness Center from Sept. 12 to 14.
Spanning three days, 13 women from the Kaiserslautern Military Community showed up to compete for an opportunity to play on the team.
“There won’t be a set roster for the team due to a majority of players being military, and jobs come first,” said Shane Spice, Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Teams Coach. “For each competition there’ll be 10 available spots on the roster, for anyone putting in the work. Other women interested in playing volleyball are still encouraged to come to the practices.”
Practice for the women’s team is every Monday and Wednesday, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“Everyone who came to participate in the tryouts was enthusiastic and motivated,” said Spice. “Most of them have previous experience playing or coaching, and I think we will be very competitive with the other teams.”
With the team’s first tournament on Oct. 7 to 8 approaching quickly, Spice explained his intent with coaching volleyball at Ramstein.
“I’m looking forward to providing opportunities for the men and women here to play volleyball,” said Spice. “The goal is to have a good time and build morale.”
The Southside Fitness Center has an open play segment on the courts every Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon and is open to anyone who wants to play.
