Saturday, the RAF Ramstein Rogues Rugby Football Club hosted the annual Rheinland-Pfalz “Pokal” tournament. More than 80 hearty ruggers from Rheinland-Pfalz made the trek to the Rogues home pitch in Queidersbach.
It was a beautiful crisp autumn day to play rugby. All division teams from RAF Ramstein, Trier, Worms/Speyer, Kaiserslautern, and newly re-formed Baumholder men battled on the pitch in struggle to claim the glory of the “Pokal Cup.”
The RAF Rogues took the cup with a solid physical performance and remain undefeated so far for the fall 2007-08 season. The brick-wall Rogue defense allowed only one score for the entire tournament while speed and quick ball movement enabled the Rogues to score more than 60 points. The team motto of ‘Victory thru Support’ was well demonstrated on the field. The Rogues recognized Davin Franklin as man of the match for his powerful running attack and mountainous defense which was the cornerstone of the Ramstein performance.
First place was awarded to RAF Ramstein with the trophy, finishing with the Silver medallion award, was the ‘Highlanders’ team from Baumholder. The Rogues continue to train and play for their season, practice is at 6:00 p.m., Tues/Thurs, at Pulaski Field.
