The Purple Heart is a medal presented to service members who have been wounded or killed as a result of enemy action while in the line of duty. U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. David Ballard, 86th Logistics Readiness Squadron fuels facilities noncommissioned officer in charge, holds a guidon during a Purple Heart Ruck at Ramstein Air Base, Aug. 5. The 86th LRS held a ruck to honor Purple Heart recipients and to learn about the medal’s heritage. The Purple Heart medal is presented to service members who have been wounded or killed as a result of enemy action while in the line of duty. Participants at a Purple Heart Ruck receive high fives from volunteers at Ramstein Air Base, Aug. 5.
