Staff Sgt. Jon Owens, 86th Operations Support Squadron, was recently named a “Rock Solid Warrior” by the 386th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron in Southwest Asia for his work as NCOIC of the night vision section.
How do you support the mission?
“As the NCO in charge, I support the mission by making sure
that all aircrew night vision equipment is operational 24/7. This, in
conjunction with maintaining all the aircrew flight equipment, ensures we can fly, fight and win.”
How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique?
“This is my third deployment. This deployment is unique because the challenges involved with my position directly ‘make or break’ our ability to execute the flying mission at night.”
How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
“This deployment has made it possible to see the diversity of how
various major commands operate. It has also highlighted how
teamwork makes every part of the puzzle fit into place to make the
mission happen every day.”
