Hess-Schmidt attended the symposium because she is responsible for disaster protection in the County of Kaiserslautern and wanted to see how U.S. and German first responders work together to provide better services to local inhabitants and prepare for disasters. U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Joverlyn Pizzuto, 786th Civil Engineer Squadron Emergency Management journeyman, shows local first responders how to use chemical detection equipment during the first responders symposium at Ramstein Air Base, Sep. 16.
