The Ramstein Rogues met the Kaiserslautern rugby club at Ramstein’s home pitch and dealt a crushing defeat to them, 60-0.
Playing on Sunday, the Rogues showed up in full numbers – 21 players strong – against the Kaiserslautern 15-man team. Having spare players allowed substitutions for exhausted players during the second half of play.
***image1***In this scoring rampage, breaking open the scoring in the first six minutes of play was JD Steenbergen. He was followed into the try zone with more scores by Mike McKinney (with four tries) and Ricky Garcia (scoring twice). Ira Brown, Spencer Caldwell and JD Steenbergen punched through again for two scores during the day. Kicking the after point conversions were Eric Grace and Ricky Garcia.
The game was dominantly in Ramstein’s favor, who had more effective ball handling and power plays by the forwards. Ramstein either secured the ball in the line-outs with Jon McDonald’s positive dominance, or interfered with Kaiserslautern clearly getting any advantage with line-out play.
“The team really demonstrated ferocity for the ball and solid defensive line form which contributed to the team’s victory today,” said Rogue field captain Eric Grace.
The club recognized Mike McKinney as “Man of the Match” for scoring a super-hat-trick with four scores. When the game ended, the Rogue ruggers welcomed the end-of-match festivities and camaraderie with the Kaiserslautern side.
The Rogues’ next match is Saturday against the AF North 10’s at Brunssum, Belgium.
All players of any skill are welcome to join the team – training is provided. E-mail the club at ramsteinrogues@hotmail.com for more information.
