Ramstein Rogues dominate season-opening tournament

After a disappointing second place finish last season, the Ramstein
Rogues started strong with a first place finish in the Rhineland Pfalz
season-opening tournament. The Rogues traveled strong in numbers to
Mainz Saturday, including a dedicated core of supporters, for a long
hard day of rugby. In the first of three matches, Ramstein came up
against K-Town/Speyer, after struggling in a scoreless first half the
Rogues opened up the second, winning 15 -0. After a long rest between
games the Rogues faced Trier, at halftime Ramstein led 14-0.

The game ended with Ramstein winning 26-5. In the final match of the
day Ramstein faced last year’s league champions, Mainz. After a hard
fought first half Ramstein and Mainz struggled to get on the board, but
after the dust settled the Rogues emerged victorious blanking Mainz 19
to 0. Scoring was led by Scrumhalf Randy Gruspe, Lock Tyler Massey, and
Fly half Jared Kuhmey. Man of the tournament honors were received by
rookie Tyler Massey who successfully managed to score 2 trys and won
every line out.
