Read Across America

Read Across America is held annually to encourage children everywhere to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss.

This day also provides National Education Association members, parents, caregivers and children the resources and activities they need to keep reading 365 days a year.
Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creates lifelong successful readers. Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school.

Dr. Seuss was born on March 2, 1904, and died Sept. 24, 1991. Some of his most famous books include “Horton Hears a Who,” “The Cat in the Hat,” “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “Green Eggs and Ham” and “The Lorax.”
