Annual Renewals
• Valid ID card and USAREUR driver’s permit
• AE Form 190-1AA or mail-out form (190-1O) received from HQ USAREUR
• Documentation showing the vehicle has passed inspection within 30 calendar days
(except for 2007 and 2008 vehicles)
• Check, money order or debit/credit card for $30 (two-year registrations – $60)
Vehicles with “AD” or “AF” license plates
• New double white insurance cards/ electronic transmission – to obtain, call your
insurance company
• New license plates will be issued to replace the old license plates
Vehicles with “KL” license plates
• Remove license plates from the vehicle and take them inside the registration office
for issuance of new registration medallions.
If license plate change is not required
• The renewal form and $30 check or money order may be placed in the drop-off box
located outside the registration substation
• The renewed registration may be picked up after 24 hours. See instructions on
drop-off box for further details.
• Those requiring license plate removals should have the appropriate tool
(screwdriver, pliers, etc.) with them to remove/install the license plates.
Selling a vehicle
• When selling to another ID cardholder, buyer and seller must be present.
• Valid ID cards
• Valid USAREUR driver’s permit
• Current vehicle registration
• Documentation showing the vehicle has passed inspection within 30 calendar days
(except for 2007 and 2008 vehicles)
• Buyer – Double white insurance cards
• If vehicle has a LIEN, the owner must provide a LIEN RELEASE or CLEARED TITLE
from the holding financial institution
• Buyer – Check, money order, or debit/credit card for $30 (two-year registrations –
$60)
Receiving a shipped vehicle
• Valid ID card
• Valid USAREUR driver’s permit
• AE Form 190-1AA
• Stateside registration or title
• DD Fm 788/Shipping document or household goods shipping document with VIN
for motorcycles or quads shipped in household goods
• Double white insurance cards/electronic transmission
• First aid kit, safety vest and warning triangle
• Check, money order or debit/credit card for $30 (two-year registrations – $60)
Shipping a vehicle
• Valid ID card
• Valid USAREUR driver’s permit Vehicles with “KL” license plates
• One day prior to shipment, exchange “KL” license plates for “HK” license plates
• If the registration has more than 60 days left until expiration, take KL plates, ID
card, driver’s license and registration and exchange them for new registration and
HK plates
• If registration has 60 days or less left before expiration, vehicle requires a new
inspection and renewed registration ($30). In advance, obtain from your insurance
new double white insurance cards/electronic transmission from the insurance
company. New license plates will be issued to replace the old license plates.
• After the vehicle is shipped, member must take registration and shipping
document (DD Fm 788) to registration office and de-register the vehicle
using AE Fm 190-1S.
Vehicles with “HK, AF, or AD” license plates and more than 60 days until registration expiration
• Vehicle can be shipped with the license plate.
• After the vehicle is shipped, member must take registration and shipping
document (DD Fm 788) to registration office and de-register the vehicle
using AE Fm 190-1S.
• No fee
Vehicle with “AF” or “AD” license plates and 60 days or less until registration expiration
• Registration must be renewed ($30) and the license plates turned in. Prior to
shipment, the “AF” or “AD” license plates must be replaced with “HK” license
plates.
• After the vehicle is shipped, member must take registration and shipping
document (DD Fm 788) to registration office and de-register the vehicle
using AE Fm 190-1S.
De-register a vehicle
Shipping:
• Member may ship the vehicle using the guidelines listed above.
• Member must take the shipping document to the registration office and de-register
the vehicle using AE Fm 190-1S.
• Insurance – double white insurance cards
Selling:
• To a non SOFA-status person
• Bill of sale
• Customs Clearance – See U.S. Customs, Bldg. 86, Einsiedlerhof CE
Compound/German Zoll
• Turn in license plates and registration
• De-register the vehicle using a AE Fm 190-1S
Additional info
• Late registration fee – If vehicle registration is less than 30 days past expiration,
there is a $15 late registration fee
• Non-operational fee – If vehicle registration has expired for more than 30 days,
the license plates have to be turned in with a $30 non-operational fee.
• Insurance: Don’t assume because you have an active policy, your double white
insurance cards are in the computer. Call your insurance company in advance.
• A tool (screwdriver, pliers, etc.,) is required to remove/install license plates.
• Have SSN available for any person whose name will appear on the vehicle
registration.
• Due to the limited space and reduced number of work stations, appointments cannot be taken during the renovation time period. We will resume appointments after we move back into the main office.
