When you, or a member of your family, see something that looks suspicious or illegal, call security forces immediately.
Do not wait to report suspicious or illegal activity to the proper authorities. The chances of a positive outcome – apprehension of the suspect – diminish greatly with every minute that passes when a crime has been committed. Each minute that passes works in favor of the suspect and encourages them to act again.
Recently, there were eight vehicle break-ins that happened within 200 yards of each other. Of the eight break-ins, only one was reported to security forces immediately. The first happened on a Thursday night, but because the victim did not suffer any loss, they waited until the following Tuesday, “when they got the time” to report the crime.
The last robbery happened one week later in front of the same building as the first, but wasn’t reported until three days after it was noticed. The one break-in that was reported immediately happened on the second Thursday night, less than 100 yards from all the others.
Had all the crimes been reported promptly, law enforcement patrols or investigation personnel would most likely have been in the area, looking for the suspect, when the subsequent crimes were committed.
Often while reviewing reports of criminal activity in our community, we read where a person heard a loud noise or their dog was barking in the early morning hours. In most of these cases, the person that heard the loud noise or dog barking checks the time on their alarm clock and goes back to sleep. When this happens, we need you to take a cursory look around your housing unit.
If you see something or someone that appears suspicious or a vehicle that you are unfamiliar with, call security forces! Do not attempt to confront the person yourself or yell at them. Get the best description of the person or the vehicle that you can and call security forces. Give all the information you can to the desk sergeant and stay on the line so that you may give updated information as you have it. A patrol will get to your location as quickly as possible.
As housing residents, you are the eyes and ears of our security forces. You know who does or does not belong in your neighborhood. We need your help to keep crime in check and keep our communities safe. Thank you for supporting your law enforcement personnel now and in the future.
