Resource Advisor awarded Airlifter of the Week

A noncommissioned officer assigned to the 76th Airlift Squadron was recognized as Airlifter of the Week April 16, at Ramstein Air Base, for fulfilling duties as the resource advisor for his squadron and the 310th Expeditionary Airborne Command and Control Squadron.

An E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System from the 310 EACCS deployed to Ramstein earlier this year in support of various training exercises. U. S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Thuan Bui made numerous mission essential purchases in support of the JSTARS North Atlantic Trade Organization deterrence mission.

“I’m essentially doing all the purchasing for them,” said Bui. “When they came here, they didn’t have a person who was able to make necessary purchases. I’ve been buying all the required items they need to fly and operate while they are deployed here.”

Bui provided oversight and coordination for both the 700th Contracting Squadron and the 86th Communication Squadron for delivery, implementation, and imaging of a $287K contract for 80 new laptops. This action helped him provide the squadron with a 100% teleworking capability rate.

While Bui was accomplishing tasks for each of the units, he had the support and help of his office.

“It’s not just me,” said Bui. “We’re an office that can do everything together.”

“I work a lot with the group RA to understand how things work, and are processed, because I don’t understand the terms and the lingo, so I just make sure I have the resources to understand,” he added.

Bui was chosen as Airlifter of the Week because his leadership can trust him to do the job.

“He is a very driven guy,” said Lt. Col. Ryan McAdams, 76th AS chief resource advisor, “I don’t have to micromanage him. He understands what needs to be done, he does the research and he contacts the appropriate people. When the 310 EACCS came in he jumped in to help on top of all the things he does for the 76th AS.”

Bui also runs the squadron defense travel system program, leading a nine-member approving official team, which approved 830 travel vouchers last year.

In the future, Bui hopes to continue performing his job and raising his kids to be great people.

“Bui is just very smart and he is constantly going the extra mile,” said McAdams. “He’s an incredible leader who takes care of his people.”
