Editor’s Note: During the coming months, the KA will profile fitness centers in the KMC. Be sure to check the sports section regularly for the skinny on how to use local fitness centers to shape up.
***image1***The lowdown:
As the Army’s sole fitness center without an adjoining gymnasium in the KMC, the Rhine Ordnance Barracks Fitness Center is family oriented, said Quinton Floyd, the U.S. Army Garrison’s sports programmer.
“We treat everyone like family here at ROB,” he said. “Our staff is friendly, the facility is very clean, and we provide excellent customer service.”
Army PT times at ROB are 6 to 7:30 a.m. with Air Force PT starting at 3 p.m., Monday to Friday. Mr. Floyd said the fitness center is mostly crowded during the morning PT hours and between 3 to 6:30 p.m., and sometimes, the fitness center gets a “good lunch crowd.”
The gear:
The ROB Fitness Center has a full equipped cardio room with nine treadmills, eight elliptical trainers, five stair climbers and eight stationary bikes.
No sign-ups are required for use of equipment. It has a free-weight and a full-weight training room with every piece of equipment needed to get the full-range of the workout.
The activities:
Yoga is offered 5:30 p.m., Monday and Thursday. The center has four male and one female personal trainers, who can help those in the KMC who want to make a lifestyle change. Those interested can sign up at ROB, Landstuhl or Kleber fitness centers.
One must-know fact:
ROB was the first KMC fitness center to have the Vacu-Step, a “state of the art” workout machine that burns fat and fights cellulite. It uses an elliptical stepper that encloses the lower part of the body placing it under pressure. The center now has two of them.
Opening hours:
Monday to Wednesday, and Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Thursday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Sunday, holidays and training holidays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The bottom line:
Friendly atmosphere and all the equipment needed means ROB can be an ideal fitness workout choice.
