Kaiserslautern sponsors four skate nights

***image1***Kaiserslautern starts its skate night season 8:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday. For four times, inline-skaters take over some car-free routes downtown this summer.
The round course Fruchthalle – Karstadt is available again this year.

Also, there are two other routes for beginners and advanced inline skaters as well as a speed route for professionals on the last skate night, Aug. 14.

The event begins with an entertaining program at 7 p.m. on the Alte Theaterplatz (the parking lot next to Karstadt department store).

Those who don’t feel safe enough on their skates, can take part in a training session with the local skating association at 7 p.m. Certified instructors show them some special techniques.

Warm up starts at 8 p.m. This warm up route goes from the parking lot around Fruchthalle and back.

The 14-kilometer east route, which is mostly flat, leads from the city hall on Pariser Strasse to Rudolf-Breitscheid-Strasse and Königstrasse, then left into Brandenburger Strasse, Trippstadter and Barbarossastrasse toward the Warmfreibad public pool. From Daennerstrasse over Mannheimer Strasse, it goes back to the city hall.

The west route for advanced skaters is also 14 km long, but hilly. It also leads from Pariser Strasse to Königstrasse and Brandenburger Strasse.

After skating on Hohenecker Strasse and Burgherrenstrasse, the route continues in the Erfenbacher Tal on B270 and downhill back on Pariser Strasse into Fruchthallstrasse.

The east route is available Tuesday and July 31, and the west route can be driven on July 17 and Aug. 14.
