SAFELY ILLUMINATED: Policy Letter 9: wear of reflective belts

Col. Kurt Lohide
435th Air Base Wing commander

***image1******image2***We need every military member to ensure we meet the challenges of our mission here in Europe. Losing a single member, even temporarily, due to a preventable mishap is unacceptable.

Reflective belts and vests are a proven way to enhance the safety of Air Force members. Therefore, all KMC personnel will wear reflective belts or vests when on duty during the hours of darkness or periods of reduced visibility when exposed to vehicular or aircraft traffic. Use of reflective belts or vests in similar circumstances while off duty is highly encouraged.

Darkness is defined as official sunset to sunrise, or any time inclement weather or restricted visibility requires a vehicle operator to use headlights to maintain traffic lane awareness or alignment.

Unit commanders will issue reflective belts or vests to their military members, and will enforce their wear. Unit commanders and supervisors will provide on-the-spot correction for members failing to wear reflective belts. We must take every action we can to protect the most important resource we have, our people.
