***image1***The FIFA World Cup 2006 is only a few days away. A number of events accompany the event in Kaiserslautern, such as “Salto Culinare,” an international variety show with lunch or dinner, which takes place June 2 to 30 in a “Spiegelzelt,” mirror tent, on the old theater parking lot (next to Karstadt department store).
“Very unique is the location of the dinner show,” said Nicole Semar from the Media & Concept publishing agency during a recent press conference. “It takes six people and three days to build up the tent, which consists of wooden elements that don’t even require one single nail.” Originally those “mirror tents” stem from around 1900. The inside walls are covered with material and mirrors, which provide a magnificent look.
“Salto Culinare” offers about 30 events per week to include show brunches, noon variety shows and night galas.
“During the World Cup, we also offer two charity galas, the opening show June 2 and the Fritz-Walter Gala June 18,” said Anne Dietrich from the publishing agency.
International artists entertain up to 400 visitors. There are comedians, clowns, magicians, acrobats, puppet players, singers and an orchestra.
***image2***“The organizers of the event, the two brothers Martin and Peter Scharff, chefs from the Wartenberger Mühle, provide a 4-course menu of a special kind,” said Ms. Dietrich. “Besides owning a ‘star’ restaurant, the brothers are known for cooking at special television and film award ceremonies.”
“For Salto Culinare, we cook with about 80 percent regional products and we only serve Palatinate wines,” said Martin Scharff. “From all 16 World Cup cities, this is the only mirror tent and we hope to wake up visitors’ enthusiasm for our concept.”
Mr. Scharff also stresses the fact that they try to provide entertainment and food for the whole family.
“For our American friends, we offer two special shows: the Midnight Mover Gala June 28 and the American Salto Culinare Gala June 30,” said Mr. Scharff.
