The 86th Airlift Wing recently found ways to reduce performance report processing time by more than 30 days using Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century LEAN process preparation.
A team composed of 19 members from the 86 AW, the 435th Mission Support Squadron’s military personnel flight and U.S. Air Forces in Europe Directorate of Communications came together to brainstorm different ideas on how to save time on OPRs/EPRs to meet MPF deadlines.
According to the AFSO21 team, the average touch time for a report is now reduced from approximately 312 hours to five hours.
The process is set to be implemented Tuesday.
Additionally, the team initiated corrective measures such as providing an up-to-date writing guide and electronic acronym dictionary.
Because the customer was represented in the process, the team was able to develop a full understanding of the performance report flow to include establishing a supplier input process and output customer model to accurately define the customer’s needs and identify shortcomings, said Senior Master Sgt. Otis Solomon, 86 AW AFSO21 representative.
This is the wing’s first attempt at revising the performance report process using AFSO21 techniques, and the initial undertaking has been deemed a success, according to Maj. Ian Livingston, 86th Airlift Wing AFSO21 chief.
“The 86th Airlift Wing’s new performance report process will strive for efficiency by eliminating waste and improving flow times wherever possible,” said Major Livingston.
