Service Credit Union donates $75,000 to Homes for our Troops

Service Credit Union presented a $75,000 check to Homes for our Troops President and founder John Gonsalves June 9 in Portsmouth, N.H. The donation will help disabled military members in the New England region with their housing needs.

“This contribution allows us to move forward with our mission, which is to build specially adapted houses for those who were severely injured in Iraq and Afghanistan,” Mr. Gonsalves said. “It is at no cost to them.”

Homes for our Troops is a non-profit organization committed to helping servicemembers who have returned home with serious disabilities and injuries. The group helps these servicemembers and their families by raising donations, building materials and professional labor and then coordinating the process of building a new home or adapting an existing home for handicapped accessibility. The finished home is then given to the injured servicemember at no cost to them.

“We are honored that we can help those who served our great country and sacrificed so much,” said Gordon Simmons, Service Credit Union president and CEO. “We want to ensure that these servicemen and women face one less challenge when they return home.”
