Smooth Move (formally Combat INTRO/Exit) officially opened its doors at a ceremony April 7. Col. Rod Zastrow, 435th Air Base Wing vice commander, presided over the ceremony that took place at Bldg. 2402 on Ramstein. The program is designed to welcome Airmen as one of their first major in-processing stops and then bids farewell to them as one of their last.
In March 2004, U.S. Air Forces in Europe directed installations to streamline base in-processing and out-processing procedures. The main goal is to get members processed as quickly and efficiently as possible. It also provides members with a system that minimizes the number of stops required to enter and exit Ramstein. Currently, the program averages as many as 500 newcomers and 300 exiting Airmen during the peak PCS season.
In-processing occurs Tuesdays and out-processing is conducted Thursdays. Airmen can get most of their in and out processing accomplished with this “one-stop-shop” concept. Some of the represented agencies are finance, TRICARE and the MPF. It’s a win-win situation for everybody, said Master Sgt. Ron Mendoza, outbound assignments superintendent.
“Accomplishing both the in and out-processing is made incredibly easy and your subject matter experts are on site to assist you,” said Sergeant Mendoza. “Not only does it save time for the members, but also for agencies that need to clear these members. This forum reduces the number of visits to these agencies.”
