U.S. Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa security forces military personnel walk to a pre-brief for the USAFE Defender Challenge Selection at the Breitenwald Training Area, Landstuhl, July 31. The pre-brief provided more information for the next challenge, an advanced rifle and pistol event.
U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Tyler Karr, 435th Contingency Response Group flight chief, fires a M18 pistol during an advanced rifle and pistol event for the U.S. Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa Defender Challenge Selection at the Breitenwald Training Area, Landstuhl, July 31. Karr had to run from different points in a gun range, shoot targets, and practice safety as fast as he could during the advanced rifle and pistol event. The DCS gave a chance to test defenders within Europe on individual combat and fire team combat with the winners competing at the Air Force level challenge at Fort Bliss, Texas.

The combat fitness test pushed participants physically and mentally while they competed in the rain.
