Now is the time for enthusiastic ice skaters to prepare for the opening of the “Kaiserslautern on Ice” season, which starts at 6 p.m. Nov. 21. For the fifth year, a mobile ice skating rink will be set up in the event hall of the Kaiserslautern Gartenschau. The annual ice skating season will run through Feb. 15.
A pre-Christmas arts and crafts exhibition will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Ramstein-Miesenbach culture and convention center, Haus des Bürgers.
Nov. 11 not only marks the beginning of the German carnival season but also St. Martin’s Day. On Tuesday, Germans honor the patron of the poor and friend of the children — St. Martin.
Every second Wednesday in November, the village of Quirnbach holds its traditional horse market. The event will include a horse show with awards, vendors, food specialties, musical entertainment and a raffle.

Self-aid and buddy care are intended to provide basic first-aid training to preserve life, limb and eyesight. The training is separated into two portions: computer-based and hands-on.
The KMC Retiree Council and the 86th Airlift Wing Retiree Activities Office hosted Retiree Appreciation Day Wednesday at the Ramstein Officers’ Club.
The force protection condition was raised Thursday morning in the U.S. European Command area of responsibility, including all military installations in the the KMC. The increased force protection posture will last until the afternoon today.
