Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone meets Lt. Gen. Timothy M. Ray, 3rd Air Force commander and 17th Expeditionary Air Force commander, upon his arrival to Ramstein Aug. 24. More than 200 Airmen and their families came out to line the streets and thank Stone and his friends for their bravery. Stone arrived on Ramstein while in transit to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center for follow-on medical treatment. Stone received multiple injuries, all of which were non-life threatening, while subduing an armed gunman on a train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris. Stone, along with childhood friends, Aleksander Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler, were recently honored by French President François Hollande for subduing an armed gunman when he entered their train carrying an assault rifle, a handgun and a box cutter. Stone is an ambulance service technician with the 65th Medical Operations Squadron stationed at Lajes Field, Azores.

Stone was on vacation with his childhood friends, Aleksander Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler, when an armed gunman entered their train carrying an assault rifle, a handgun and a box cutter. The three friends, with the help of a British passenger, subdued the gunman after his rifle jammed.

PARIS — U.S. Ambassador to France Jane D. Hartly recognized Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone for his actions in saving countless lives during a terrorist attack aboard a train headed toward Paris Aug. 21.

The Polygone Electronic Warfare Range extended their capabilities with the opening of the Polygone Control Center on March 18 in Bann, Germany.With the PCC, Polygone operators talk to aircraft through a simulator which allows them to send virtual threats to test pilots on their reactions during enemy engagements. The control center offers a consolidated operating system that allows all exercise players to interact on one screen.

A KC-135 Stratotanker from the 100th Air Refueling Wing refuels a 354th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron A-10 Thunderbolt II March 26 above Ramstein. The A-10s deployed as part of a theater security package in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve. The TSP deployments are possible with the strategic access provided by infrastructure, support and relationships with local communities at U.S. and host nation installations. Service members from Ramstein, Spangdahlem Air Base, and Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England, were all involved in the aerial refueling training. Aircrew from Mildenhall stayed multiple days at Ramstein to operate from the Air Force’s premier power projection platform, giving the A-10s deployed to Spangdahlem quick access to aerial refueling capabilities.
