In the largest orchestrated air, ground and sea assaults of the century, more than 850 C-47 Skytrains piloted by Airmen with the Army Air Forces and the 37th Troop Carrier Squadron were to deliver approximately 13,000 paratroopers from the 82nd and 101st Airborne into battle.
