Klaus Kueppers, fire protection inspector and acting assistant chief for the garrison’s Fire Prevention program, said these simple scenarios are all too common in many kitchens.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, 38 percent of home fire deaths happen in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.
