U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Cole Kasten, 52nd Civil Engineer Squadron pavement and heavy equipment operator, pushes a wheelbarrow before mixing cement for a ramp at Public School No. 4 Aug. 28 in Gori. Kasten, along with a six-man U.S. Air Force team and Georgian army engineers, worked for more than 16 hours straight on some days during the 30-day project in order to complete everything they could to renovate of the school and help the children of Gori.

Students, teachers, neighbors and U.S. Air Force and Georgian army engineers pitch in to help spread gravel for Gori Public School No. 4’s new driveway Aug. 30 in Gori, Georgia. The new driveway and entire renovation of the school is part of a Humanitarian and Civic Assistance project, a U.S. European Command program that is designed to provide assistance to the Georgian populace and help military members and civilians hone building and construction skills and trades. Humanitarian and Civic Assistance projects enhance operational readiness of military personnel while providing support to the host nation's population. For more photos, see Page 8.

GORI, Georgia — For the past month, the hallways of Gori Public School No. 4 were alive with the sounds of construction workers sanding, sawing, tearing down, building up and transforming what once looked like a century-old building.
