Kaiserslautern students play chess while dressed in costumes at a pre-Halloween chess tournament Oct. 29 at Kaiserslautern Elementary School. Over 70 students in costume participated in the round-robin, freaky-fun format. After the tournament, the six best costumes were awarded followed by a dance party with flashlights.

The Pfrimmtal Touristik association will sponsor its traditional spooky Halloween event Oct. 22 in Breunigweiler. A diversity of animals such as giant spiders and bats as well as ghosts, witches, monsters and bandits will be up to mischief and scare participants on a horror trip trail.

Oct. 30 on Rhine Ordnance Barracks. Children and parents in costume made their way from one vehicle to the next for a chance to satisfy their sweet tooth with all types of holiday treats. Organizers said they were pleased by the turnout, with the cool weather doing little to dampen the spirits of those in attendance.
