Senior Airman Collin Sams, 786th Force Support Squadron installation personnel readiness technician, walks outside his dormitory Jan. 10 on Ramstein. Sams was part of a bay orderly team in charge of maintaining cleanliness around dormitories across Ramstein, clearing walkways and parking lots of snow throughout the day as precipitation fell.

Residents must keep sidewalks free of snow, ice

Residents living off-base in German communities must know the rules regarding snow and ice on sidewalks. Residents should check their rental contracts to find out about their obligations. The rental contract clearly states who must keep sidewalks free of ice and snow.

Snow removal process runs like well-oiled machine

Every winter the 786th Civil Engineer Squadron fights an uphill battle to keep Mother Nature at bay. To keep the mission going, the “snow team,” which includes the 786th CES Heavy Equipment shop and volunteers from other CE shops, stands ready to face the blustering winds and bitter cold in order to keep runways and streets clear of snow and ice.
