Christmas, New Year’s market
The Kaiserslautern Christmas market around Stiftskirche and on Schillerplatz is open through Dec. 23 and then continues as a New Year’s market Dec. 27 to 30. On Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m., Father & Son present guitar music at the stage on Schillerplatz, and the duet Nimm 2 performs from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Rick Cheyenne performs Christmas rock ‘n’ roll from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Dec. 29 in front of Stiftskirche. Children can bake Christmas cookies for free in the children’s bakery next to Stiftskirche from 11 a.m. to 
5 p.m. Saturday, Thursday and Dec. 23, as well as from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. For details on the program, visit www.kaiserslautern.de.

Romantic forest Christmas market
“Romantic Christmas in the Forest” takes place from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday near the House of Sustainability, Johanniskreuzer Strasse 1, 67705 Trippstadt. More than 70 vendors will sell arts and crafts as well as food specialties. Children can enjoy pony rides, crafting and a merry-go-round. Since there is not sufficient parking, visitors are asked to use busses that leave from the Kaiserslautern main train station and other bus stops every 15 minutes. Medieval Christmas market
Sankt Wendel holds its Christmas market combined with a medieval market Saturday to Dec. 11. Daily opening hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. A 12-meter-tall Christmas pyramid, life-sized nutcrackers, a miniature village with 200 dwarfs, a big nativity scene and tobbogan runs are available. More than 140 decorated Christmas booths offer arts and crafts, gift ideas and regional culinary specialties. A medieval market features vendors in historical costumes and craftsmen. Jugglers, dancers, singers, musicians and fire-eaters entertain in the streets and on stage. For more information, visit www.sank wendel.de. Sankt Wendel is north of Neunkirchen. Parking is available in City-Garage from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays.

Moving shadows in Landstuhl
The Stadthalle in Landstuhl presents “Moving Shadows” by the group The Mobiles at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The award-winning shadow theater consists of eight  members who create a journey around the globe with a selection of images and sceneries on a screen with lights and music. Erpolzheim hosts Martin’s market
The wine growing community of Erpolzheim hosts its annual Martin’s market from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The market is a cultural fest featuring artists, crafters, a little amusement park, food specialties, regional products, music and dance performances. Fire shows are scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday and 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Erpolzheim is known for its fruit, asparagus and wine growing. Horror hike in Breunigweiler
Pfrimmtal Touristik office sponsors a horror trip that takes participants from the sports field in Breunigweiler, north of Alsenborn, to the center of town from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday. On the 2-kilometer trail with giant spiders, bats, witches, goblins, monsters and bandits scare hikers. After the hike, participants meet in yards to share their experience and enjoy food specialties in a spooky atmosphere. Tickets at the door cost €7. Buddha exhibition in Voelklingen
The Voelklinger Huette, former Iron-Works and known as World Heritage Site, hosts a “Buddha” exhibition through Feb. 17. Visitors can admire 232 works of art from 2,000 years.
