The ice skating rink in Kaiserslautern’s Gartenschau event hall will officially open at 6 p.m. Nov. 20. After the opening show, ice skaters can skate for a reduced price of €2. Through Feb. 14, daily skating hours will be from 9 a.m. to noon; 1 to 3 p.m.; 4 to 6 p.m.; and 7 to 9 p.m. On Friday and Saturday nights, skating hours are extended until 10 p.m. Admission is €2.50 for children and €3.50 for adults. Martin’s market in Erpolzheim
Erpolzheim will hold its traditional Martin’s market from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The market is a cultural fest featuring artists, crafters, a small amusement park, food specialties, regional products, music and dance performances. Fire shows are scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday and 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Erpolzheim is known for its fruit, asparagus and wine growing. Zweibruecken sponsors Halloween fest
Zweibruecken celebrates its traditional Halloween spectacle Saturday. Pumpkin carving starts at 11 a.m. at Schlossplatz. Pumpkin soup will be served at noon. Children can have their faces painted from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monsters, ghosts, witches and vampires will be welcomed at 5 p.m. The dance group Traumzeit will accompany people in costumes to Schlossplatz where the fest officially opens at 6 p.m. with fire magicians and culinary specialties. Children can take a walk through haunted tents and participate in a drawing contest.

Gartenschau ‘slaughters’ pumpkins
The Gartenschau Kaiserslautern will “slaughter” or break apart pumpkins that won the recent pumpkin weighing championship at 1 p.m. Sunday. Visitors can get parts of the inside pumpkin meat as well as seeds. The pumpkin display under the motto “sports” will continue through Oct. 31, when the park will close. Farmers, craftsmen market scheduled
Schoenau is holding its 15th annual Michaelis market, a farmers and craftsmanship market, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Regional farmers present fruit, vegetables and pumpkins and offer wurst, cheese, trout, honey, bread and schnapps. Craftsmen such as basket makers, stone masons and broom makers demonstrate old skills. Food specialities include flammkuchen, bratwurst made of game, dumplings with wine sauce and waffles. The carnival features rides for little children and activity booths. Schoenau is located south of Dahn, at the French border. For details, visit www.schoenau-pfalz.de.

Winnweiler holds October market
Winnweiler celebrates its October market with a carnival and an entertaining program Saturday through Monday. The carnival site on Schlossplatz with rides and vendors opens at 2 p.m. Saturday.  The official opening with tapping the first keg of beer is at 6:30 p.m. near the fountain in front of the museum. A Bavarian evening with party band begins at 7 p.m. in the Festhaus. Tickets cost €7. The fest parade with numerous walking groups, floats and bands start at 2 p.m. Sunday. Stores open 2 to 6 p.m. On Monday, October market closes out in Schlossstrasse and in restaurants at Marktplatz. Wine village opens in Neustadt
The annual wine harvest fest in Neustadt/German Wine Street starts today with the opening of the wine village consisting of little framework houses across from the train station. Visitors can taste new wine and Palatinate food specialties including onion cake, liver dumplings and saumagen. The wine harvest fest with a carnival takes place Oct. 2 to Oct. 12. The big vintner's parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. Oct. 11. For more information, visit www.neustadt.eu.

Culinary hike in Rodenbach
The sixth culinary hike in Rodenbach takes place Saturday and Sunday. Walkers will pass seven stations where they can taste culinary specialties and wines by regional caterers, butchers and vintners along about 4 km of mostly paved trails. The hike begins with an opening ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday and ends around 9 p.m. Activities on Sunday are from 10 a.m. to about 7 p.m. Participants can buy a wine pass for €7 and will receive a small glass to taste wines at each wine station. The passes can be obtained at the two information stands. Children can jump on a bouncy castle and get their faces painted. Participants can park their vehicles on parking lots in the Industriegebiet Nord, Hans-Geiger-Strasse, Kaiserslautern, the industrial area between Vogelweh and Weilerbach, along state road L367, and start their route here following the signs. Landstuhl celebrates city fest
Landstuhl celebrates its 27th city fest today through Sunday. The event features a musical program with more than 20 bands on three stages, regional culinary specialties and a car display behind Stadthalle. Sunday, stores are open from 1 to 6 p.m. The fest opens with officials tapping the first keg of beer at 6:30 p.m. today followed by Wings of Dixie, a U.S. Air Forces in Europe Band, performing until 8:30 p.m. The bands Teamwork, Copyright, 7ty Proof and Funhouse plays P!nk perform until 11:30 p.m. More bands will perform from 3:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
