Did you know that outdoor surfaces, such as parking lots, sidewalks and walkways are one of the leading areas for “slip and fall” accidents. So, be careful this upcoming winter and watch out for ice!
FACT: It’s the residences responsibility to keep the sidewalks and driveways clear of snow and ice around assigned family housing quarters.
FACT: The on-base Self-Help Store provides “GRIT” (a salt substitute for ice control) which helps to cover the ice on sidewalks and other ground surfaces, to be used, in and around your home.
FACT: Snow shovels are issued from the on-base Self-Help Store (stairwells only).
The Self-Help Stores are located at Ramstein – Building 859 / Vogelweh – Building 1070 and are open on Monday-Friday 0800-1800 and on Saturdays from 0800-1600. The Self-Help Stores are closed on German/American Holidays.
Here are a few winter tips from the KMC Housing Office!
- Don’t Be Left Out In The Cold Without The Proper Clothing
- Think Twice Before Walking On Ice
- Prepare & Prevent Instead Of Repair & Repent
- Watch Your Step — It Could Be Your Last
- Ice And Snow… Take It Slow
For your home, when temperatures are below freezing:
- Disconnect/wrap hose
- Turn the spigots off
- Keep outside technical rooms closed and clear of debris
- Limit open windows/garage doors to short periods of time
Please keep in mind, that when these items are left unattended, it could lead to busted water pipes — be vigilant!
