Tips to being a better neighbor

Warmer weather is approaching and we naturally are anxious to get outdoors and engage in the summer’s fun activities. In doing so, we must remember safety, pet responsibility and respect for our neighbors.

With the warmer weather, we have a tendency to open the windows and enjoy the fresh air; however, we need to keep in mind the hazards associated with windows
open in the stairwell family homes.

» Do not leave a child unattended in a room with open windows

» Do not allow children to sit on the window ledge

» Do not place any item near the window (i.e. furniture, play toys, etc) that a child could climb on to and access the window.  Screens do not hold a child’s weight and prevent them from falling out of the window. The Housing U-Fix-It Stores have safety devices for the windows in family housing.
We certainly love our pets, but we must never lose sight of the responsibilities of being a pet owner residing in family housing.

» When walking your pet, ensure you carry the appropriate equipment to pick up and dispose of pet droppings or use the bags provided at the pet relief stations.

» You must ensure that your pet(s) do not become a nuisance or a threat to your neighbors.

» If your child is walking your pet, make sure that they are capable of controlling them.

» Pets must be on a leash at all times when outside of fenced areas.

» Pet ownership is not a right, it is a responsibility
With the days becoming longer, our children will be out playing later. Speed limits in all KMC housing is 20 kph and are posted and enforced by security forces.

» Enforce curfews with our children, we tend to lose track of time with the longer days.

» Children under 18 years old must be inside between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.

» Park in your designated parking areas, do not block your neighbors or use the visitor parking.

» Observe quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

» Unnecessary noise, such as excessive dog barking/howling, loud music, mowing the lawn or slamming vehicle or apartment doors is prohibited. Keep in mind your neighbor maybe a shift worker.
