The largest charity bazaar and indoor flea market is opening its doors for the 60th time under the patronage of Lord Mayor Weichel of Kaiserslautern and is organized by the German American and International Women’s Club (GAIWC). The bazaar offers household goods, clothes, books and much more to discover. Donations can be dropped off at the venue on Friday, March 3 from 1-4 P.M. MOBILE ICE-SKATING RINK, OPENED JAN. 20 UNTIL MID MARCH

The mobile ice-skating rink opened in the heart of the pedestrian zone in Kaiserslautern. Skate a few rounds, turn pirouettes and enjoy some icy winter fun for the whole family. FASTNACHT/FASCHING/KARNEVAL, STARTING FEB. 16

GERMANY WIDE 

Thursday, Feb. 16. marks the beginning of the Karneval season in Germany. Thursday is referred to as “Altweiberfastnacht” (old wives’ Fastnacht), where witches steal the keys to the city hall and take over command for the weekend. There are celebrations, parties, parades throughout the weekend and the festival culminates on “Faschingsdienstag” (Shrove Tuesday) then Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. The first concert in 2023 in the impressive Abteil Church will present a German requiem by Johannes Brahms. The Chamber Philharmonie Mannheim will perform with solo artists Noemi Sohn, soprano, and Klaus Mertens, baritone, accompanied by the choir of the Versöhnungkirche. Classic fans will adore this requiem in seven parts.
