KINDERGRAVES CEREMONY

MAY 18, 10 A.M.–NOON, DAENNER CHAPEL/MAIN CEMETARY KAISERSLAUTERN

Each spring following Mother’s Day, a memorial ceremony is sponsored by the Kaiserslautern Kindergraves Memorial Foundation in cooperation with the Kaiserslautern Military Community and Kaiserslautern city officials. Floral wreaths are placed at the front monument and a candle lighting ceremony takes place in memory of the 452 children buried there. A flower and an American flag are placed at each grave marker and anyone interested is welcome to attend the ceremony.

GERMAN-AMERICAN COMEDY NIGHT

The Atlantic Academy together with the state program “Welcome to Rheinland-Pfalz!” will host the German-American Comedy night. In this comedy show, American comedian Erin Crouch and German comedian Manuel Wolff will explore and unpack German stereotypes with disarming self-irony. BURGFRÜHLING AUF BURG LICHTENBERG (SPRING FEST)

GOD OF CARNAGE (ENGLISH PLAY)

Enjoy eleven days full of fun and action at the May fair on Messeplatz. There will be exciting rides, cozy beer gardens with music, and lots of food and drink. Young and old(er) fans will have tons of opportunities to celebrate at the largest carnival in the Westpfalz region. Shops will be open for Sunday shopping on May 26 and there will be fireworks on June 3 around 9:30 p.m.

JAPAN DAY 2024

JUNE 1, RHINE PROMENADE, DÜSSELDORF

On June 1 Düsseldorf will once again be transformed into the site of one of Europe’s largest Japanese culture and encounter festivals and again delight visitors with a spectacular Japanese fireworks display. Düsseldorfers and guests and can experience a day full of Japanese art, culture and culinary delights. The city is home to the largest Japanese community in Europe with 20,000 members. MOONWALKER/BRÜCKENGLÜCK (HIKING EVENT/PICNIC)

JUNE 1-2, ROMAN BRIDGE, TRIER

On June 1 the Römerbrücke (Germany’s oldest bridge) is the starting point and goal of a Moonwalker event. You can view historic sites, the surrounding scenery at sunset and the moonlit city. There are various routes, 10, 20 or 30 kilometers, depending on your fitness level. Afterwards you can picnic with friends on benches set up on the bridge. Or, if you’d rather not hike, you can start off the evening with a glass of wine at “Brückenglück, or happiness on a bridge” and wait for your comrades to end their hiking rounds.
