SAND SCULPTURE EXHIBIT

An exhibit of sand sculptures under the theme “Jungle Fever” will be displayed, made out of 160 tons of sand. Artists Jeroen van de Vlag, Anique Kuizenga, Ludo Roders and Fergus Mulvany will enchant visitors and bring rumble in the jungle to Kaiserslautern.

HAMBACH MUSIC FESTIVAL
MAY 29 – JUNE 2, AND “SCHWARZ-ROT-GOLD” FEST, JUNE 14 -16, HAMBACH/NEUSTADT
Three days of freedom, equality and brotherhood await visitors at the wine fest in Hambach, a section of Neustadt/Weinstrasse in honor of the Hambacher Fest on May 24, 1832 with classical concerts in the castle. The historic Hambacher Fest is considered to be the “cradle of German democracy.” Visitors of the “Black-Red-Gold” fest can expect local wines and regional specialties, art, music, theater for young and old in a very special atmosphere in Hambacher Schlossstrasse with special illumination. The fest was voted as the most beautiful wine fest in the Pfalz in 2023.

MOONWALKER/BRÜCKENGLÜCK (HIKING EVENT/PICNIC)

On June 1 the Römerbrücke (Germany’s oldest bridge) is the starting point and goal of a Moonwalker event. You can view historic sites, the surrounding scenery at sunset and the moonlit city. There are various routes, 10, 20 or 30 kilometers, depending on your fitness level. Afterwards you can picnic with friends on benches set up on the bridge. Or, if you’d rather not hike, you can start off the evening with a glass of wine at “Brückenglück, or happiness on a bridge” and wait for your comrades to end their hiking rounds. 23RD ANNUAL MIDDLE AGE FESTIVAL

Step back in time and enjoy a weekend in the Middle Ages! Junker Jörg will lead the procession of Nobles to the ceremonies, afterward musicians and jugglers will perform. The program continues with a pitched battle in the camp. A tournament of the medieval archers and a torchlight procession of the Nobels in the evening followed by a spectacular fireworks display accompanied by music. On Sunday craftsmen show their old skills and merchants offer good. Their will be music, lots of food and beverages and jugglers and musicians will perform until closing at 7:00 P.M.
KINDERFEST “FUN AND ACTION IN THE CITY”

Fun and games for young and old in Kaiserslautern’s city center. The popular children’s day in the city will take place at various spots in the city center and pedestrian zone. There will be great events for kids and families, dances and shows, creative handcrafting and sports. One highlight will be “Deine Kinderband” on the stage by the Stiftskirche and at 12:00 a.m. there will be special program for the smallest of all visitors. DISCOVERY TOUR IN ENGLISH

The guided tour includes a visit inside the Casimir Saal, located just below the City Hall. It is approximately 1.5 hours and leads through the underground illuminated tunnel with information and sound effects about the history of Kaiserslautern. ABTEIKIRCHENKONZERT

The Pfalzphilharmonie Kaiserslautern, conducted by Daniele Squeo, will perform Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4 in E-flat major. With his extensive sacred works as well as his symphonic output, Anton Bruckner can be considered one of the most important composers of the late Romantic period. As a personality as well as a musician, he was initially celebrated as an organ virtuoso before also gaining recognition as one of the great symphonists after Ludwig van Beethoven. 2024 marks the 200th anniversary of his birth. To mark the occasion, the Pfalzphilharmonie KL, will perform his 4th Symphony, which the composer himself called the “Romantic”, in a special concert. Bruckner’s idea of placing the creation of the music itself in a larger context is particularly effective in a church setting.

The 11th “Old World” gourmet hike will take place in Heimkirchen. The wonderful circular hiking trail with fantastic views offers eight different stations set up over a distance of 5.5 km. Exclusive Palatinate “Old World” specialties will be prepared to enjoy. The diversity of the landscape is also reflected in the variety of food on offer, most of which comes from the region. 75TH BERLIN AIRLIFT ANNIVERSARY

U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden and the State of Hesse, will host a public commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift. U.S. Army Wiesbaden, previously an Air Force airfield, was one of the main locations that launched aircraft in support of the Berlin Airlift 1948-1949. Visitors can see historic aircraft and current equipment from U.S. and German militaries, and also enjoy food, fun and live music. Access to the premises is only on foot, by bike, by taxi or by shuttle bus and may have to queue at the entrance. The event will be signposted on autobahns and roads, Park & Ride lots and services will be available. Please note: Only service dogs will be permitted and there will be a strict alcohol, drug and smoking ban, bulky items and drones are not permitted.
