SPIELPLATZFEST (PLAYGROUND FEST)

Join in the colorful family fun at the fest with a bouncy castle, face painting and mini soccer for kids, and get ready to make new friends. A delicious BBQ as well as coffee and cake will be there for the “big” kids and you’ll have a chance to meet community politicians and a few neighbors. Any proceeds will be invested in THE beautification of the playground.
DISCOVERY TOUR IN ENGLISH

The guided tour includes a visit inside the Casimir Saal, located just below the City Hall. It is approximately 1.5 hours and leads through the underground illuminated tunnel with information and sound effects about the history of Kaiserslautern. Dive back into the Middle Ages and experience life centuries ago. Booths will offer fragrant soaps, felt products and wooden swords for small middle age fans. Marvel at handcrafted items and have a hearty drink or snack accompanied by medieval music groups.

The garden is open for visitors during daylight hours. Experience the cherry blossom or other special events such as the “Day of Green,” a Japanese holiday, or “Children’s Day” with the reading of a children’s book. Tea ceremonies take place May 19, June 23, July 14, Aug. 18, Sep. 15 and Oct. 20. The garden will also participate in the “Lange Nacht der Kultur” (Long light of Culture) June 22 and “Japan Classics” Aug. 18. Homburg Flea & Antiques Market – The biggest flea and antiques market in southwest Germany, takes place on the first Saturday of the month, in the area known as the Forum, in front of the Homburg Rathaus (town hall) and the Landratsamt. HIWWE WIE DRIWWE – THE ROOTS OF THE PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH

About 300 years ago many people from the Palatinate region fled from political persecution as well as for economic reasons to the USA and settled mainly in and around Pennsylvania. They brought their language and culture to the “New World”. A second part of the successful documentary (with English subtitles) will be presented at the movie theater.
ASCENSION DAY

Thursday, May 9, is Ascension Day, a public holiday based on a religious background. It is also known as German “Fathers’ Day”, where you may spot groups of jolly young people travelling around with hand wagons. All public offices and shops are closed to observe the holiday.
SING! JOINT CONCERT RPIC/ESME

The renowned Rheinland-Pfalz International Choir will host a concert together with the English Speaking Music Ensembles Singers from Munich. The choirs will present pieces from their current repertoires and perform a few songs together.
