SAMHAIN FESTIVAL

OCT. 31, KELTENDORF, STEINBACH (DONNERSBERG)

The Celtic village in Steinbach will top off the season with a traditional Samhaim festival. The event has its origins 2,000 years ago and marks the end of the year and beginning of winter. Celts then ate, drank and celebrated the occasion together. The village will offer displays, bonfires, activities for kids and a walk with torches to the circle of spooky Celtic statues at the garden nearby, where guests will receive information about Celtic traditions at the large bonfire. This year’s pumpkin exhibition will feature an “underwater world” with from an over-dimensional shark head to Ariel the mermaid up to Sponge Bob. Tens of thousands of hand carved pumpkins will be on display and turn the park into one wonderful fall landscape. A special Halloween night for kids is scheduled on Oct. 31. RUDOLF LEVY EXHIBITION

OCT. 28, 2023 – FEB. 11, 2024, MUSEUM PFALZGALERIE (MPK), KAISERSLAUTERN

The museum is displaying the works of artist Rudolf Levy, who is known as the “magician of colors” for the first time in Germany. Levy, born in northern Germany, lived in Paris for a few years and was acquainted with artists such as Pablo Picasso. He went into exile in New York, returned to Europe in 1943 and eventually became a victim of the Holocaust. Kaiserslautern hosted a traveling exhibition of part of his works as early as 1954. Wednesday, Nov 1, is a public holiday with a religious background. All stores and offices will be closed to observe the occasion in Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. MARTINUS WEINFEST ST. MARTIN

NOV. 3 – 5, TOWN CENTER, ST. MARTIN (NEAR NEUSTADT)

St. Martin at southern Weinstrasse hosts the Martinus Weinfest very late in the season. It is considered to be the closing of the wine fest season and is held in honor of its patron saint St. Martin of Tours. Visitors are advised to take trains or park well outside of the village and walk, as the village center is blocked for the festival.

CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIEW

Creedence Clearwater Review is the first British band to pay tribute to legendary Creedence Clearwater Revival, one of America’s greatest bands.
