DEUTSCHES WEINLESEFEST

UNTIL OCT. 14, CITY CENTER, NEUSTADT/WEINSTRASSE

As soon as the festive season in Bad Dürkheim is over, the next major event about the liquid gold begins in Neustadt. From late September to mid-October, the German Wine Harvest Festival offers you two very special highlights in addition to the large fair and the w.i.n.e.FESTival. Every year, the election of the German Wine Queen traditionally takes place. At the end of the celebrations, numerous traditional and marching groups as well as spectacular floats parade through the city on Oct. 13, Sunday afternoon, forming the largest wine parade in all of Germany! There will be special trains from Kaiserslautern to Neustadt, hop on and enjoy the ride!

MEDIEVAL MARKET

OCT. 4 – 6, GELTERSWOOG, KAISERSLAUTERN

Once again, the Gelterswoog team is organizing a Medieval Market at the lake. Attractions are music bands FREMITUS and RATZFATZ & Rübe. There will also be fire shows on Saturday evening by FLOCULUS and TIMOLINO in DUETT in a lake setting. The famous juggler Timolino will be on board again, food includes medieval meat dishes, suckling pig, tarte flambée, soup kitchen, spiral potatoes, a salami stand, an ICE TOWER and much more. The large tavern will offer real cherry beer, mead beer, cherry mead, natural shandy and much more. Musicians Herzblut with Romeo Popp will also create a great atmosphere at the market. Don’t miss out on sword fights, face painting for kids, painting swords, bow and arrow challenges. Magician William will show his magic tricks, and a carousel will be there for young visitors.

ROTWEINFEST INGELHEIM (RED WINE FEST)

UNTIL OCT. 6, CITY CENTER, INGELHEIM/RHEIN

The small town of Ingelheim, whose red wine festival in the historic ambience of the illuminated castle church is one of the most beautiful wine festivals in Rheinhessen is just a hop and a skip from Mainz. There will be live music on four stages, fast-paced action on rides and culinary delights at various stands.

KESCHDEFESCHD (CHESTNUT FESTIVAL)

OCT. 5-6, ANNWEILER/TRIFELS

Chestnuts, chestnuts and even more chestnuts! The Keschdefeschd is a must-see and taste for all fans of the fruit and go nuts! Local vendors will offer dishes and products from and with chestnuts, such as sweet and savory variations, chestnut cream, chestnut liqueur, chestnut honey, chestnut flatbread, chestnut mustard and chestnut bread. And, if that’s not nutty enough, march up the hill to visit Trifels Castle, where English King Richard the Lion Heart was held captive in the late 12th century.

DISCOVERY TOUR IN ENGLISH

OCT. 5, 11:15 A.M., CASIMIR SAAL (CITY HALL), KAISERSLAUTERN

The guided tour includes a visit inside the Casimir Saal, located just below the City Hall. It is approximately 1.5 hours and leads through the underground illuminated tunnel with information and sound effects about the history of Kaiserslautern. OKTOBERFEST

UNTIL OCT. 6, THERESIENWIESE, MUNICH

The world’s largest beer fest started with the parade of the brewery horses and tapping of the keg on Sat. 16. Large tents with music and Bavarian Händl (rotary chicken), a multitude of exciting rides, vendors, food, drinks and sweets invite international guests to 17 days of lively Bavarian spirit.

HOMBURG FLEA AND ANTIQUES MARKET

OCT. 12, 8 A.M.–4 P.M., FORUM/LANDRATSAMT, HOMBURG

The biggest flea market in southwest Germany, always takes place on the first Saturday of the month. The flea market was launched in 1975 and has developed into the largest in southwest Germany. The flea market has become the top address for customers from France, Luxembourg and Belgium, and all this makes the flea market a tourist attraction. HISTORIC WALKING TOUR IN ENGLISH

FEST DES FEDERWEISSEN

OCT. 17–20, RATHAUSPLATZ/CITY CENTER, LANDAU

The oldest festival dedicated to new wine will take place in the heart of Landau. What the Oktoberfest is to Munich and the Wurstmarkt to Bad Dürkheim, the Federweisser festival is to Landau! The festival hosts six wine booths, which only offer wines from Landau wineries. More than 30 snack and specialty stands complete the festival offering and offer a wide range of unusual dishes in addition to typical Palatinate specialties such as onion cake, tarte flambée, chestnuts and steamed dumplings.

OKTOBERKERWE

OCT. 18–28, MESSEPLATZ, KAISERSLAUTERN

Visit the largest fair in the region and enjoy turbulent rides and live music in several tents. Food, beverages, games, sweets and fun for the whole family. Wednesday is family day with reduced prices, shops are open for Sunday shopping on Oct. 20. The fair will end with fireworks on Monday, Oct. 28 at about 9:30 p.m.

ONE NIGHT OF ELTON JOHN
