KINDERALTSTADTFEST

Since 1996, the Children’s Old Town Festival has been celebrated in Kaiserslautern every year on the occasion of World Children’s Day. The festival will take place on Saturday in the area from Stockhaus-platz to Kaiserbrunnen. The Children’s Old Town Festival guarantees a colorful program with lots of fun and action, and is a wonderful experience for children and their companions. The topic “refugee children” according to Article 22 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is the focus of this year’s Children’s Rights Week.

OKTOBERFEST

SEP. 21–OCT. 6, THERESIENWIESE, MUNICH

The world’s largest beer fest is scheduled to start with the parade of the brewery horses and tapping of the keg on Sat. 16. Large tents with music and Bavarian Händl (rotary chicken), a multitude of exciting rides, vendors, food, drinks and sweets invite international guests to 17 days of lively Bavarian spirit. Local tour operators also offer tour packages to the event.

ROMANTIC NIGHT – LOVE NEVER ENDS DOUBLE CONCERT

Love never ends – Gregorian chant from Passau and Salzburg and contemporary compositions from the Middle Ages, essentially the same liturgical tradition was cultivated in what is now Austria and southern Germany, as documented by medieval sources. Byzantine chorale with works by Nikolaos Koukoumas – In the 14th century, hesychasm was developed as a form of spirituality by orthodox Byzantine monks. It spread quickly and had an influence on all aspects of the Orthodox Church. At this time, a great but little-known composer lived in Thessaloniki: Nikolaos Koukoumas. His works include the second stasis of the Polyeleos (Psalm 135), a composition incorporating all eight modes of Byzantine music. This masterpiece has never been performed in any other program. 4-MILE/7-MILE TRAIL RUN

The running section of TSG 1861 (sports club) Kaiserslautern is organizing a 7-mile trail run for the fifth time this year. Formerly known as the German-American Half Marathon, it was changed into a trail run. There are two trails, 4 miles and 7 miles. There will be prizes for winners and a cake buffet in the afternoon. DEUTSCHES WEINLESEFEST

As soon as the festive season in Bad Dürkheim is over, the next major event about the liquid gold begins in Neustadt. From late September to mid-October, the German Wine Harvest Festival offers you two very special highlights in addition to the large fair and the w.i.n.e.FESTival. Every year, the election of the German Wine Queen traditionally takes place. At the end of the celebrations, numerous traditional and marching groups as well as spectacular floats parade through the city on Oct. 13, Sunday afternoon, forming the largest wine parade in all of Germany! There will be special trains from Kaiserslautern to Neustadt, hop on and enjoy the ride!

FARMERS’ MARKET IN SCHNECKENHAUSEN

Enjoy regional diversity and craftsmanship! Schneckenhausen, a typical village in the “Old World”, opens its doors every year for a picturesque farmers’ market. With over 70 lovingly designed stalls presenting a wide range of regional products, jewelry and decorative items, liqueurs, wines and organic honey, the farmers’ market has become a highlight in the region’s calendar of events. The farmers’ market in Schneckenhausen offers more than just shopping opportunities – it is a feast for the senses. Visitors are greeted by an abundance of fresh produce from the region, from crusty bread and fragrant cheeses to fresh vegetables and juicy fruit. The stalls are filled with carefully selected goods that reflect the quality and diversity of local agriculture.

ROTWEINFEST INGELHEIM (RED WINE FEST)

SEP. 28–OCT. 6, CITY CENTER, INGELHEIM/RHEIN

The small town of Ingelheim, whose red wine festival in the historic ambience of the illuminated castle church is one of the most beautiful wine festivals in Rheinhessen is just a hop and a skip from Mainz. Towards the end of September, Ingelheim winemakers present the best wines of the vintage within the wall ring of the medieval complex over a total of 9 days. There will be live music on four stages, fast-paced action on rides and culinary delights at various stands. As every year, the highlight of the festivities is the mayor’s Burgundy wine tasting, where you will be served 15 selected wines from the Burgundy family in the festival tent with perfectly coordinated dishes – a true feast for all the senses!

Chestnuts, chestnuts and even more chestnuts! The Keschdefeschd is a must-see and taste for all fans of the fruit and go nuts! Local vendors will offer dishes and products from and with chestnuts, such as sweet and savory variations, chestnut cream, chestnut liqueur, chestnut honey, chestnut flatbread, chestnut mustard and chestnut bread. And, if that’s not nutty enough, march up the hill to visit Trifels Castle, where English King Richard the Lion Heart was held captive in the late 12th century.
