GERMAN-AMERICAN FRIENDSHIP CONCERT
OCT. 3, 8 P.M., FRUCHTHALLE, KAISERSLAUTERN
The United States Army Europe and Africa Band & Chorus is hosting a free concert in Kaiserslautern in the mark of German-American friendship in the region. The band, conducted by Lt. Colonel Scott McKenzie, is the largest music formation of the U.S. Army outside of the United States. Its repertoire reaches from classic music to contemporary pieces and the concert will present a diverse selection. A limited number of tickets will be available that evening until 7.30 p.m. at the box office on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The road between Eiswoog (lake) and Obrigheim will be blocked for vehicle traffic. There will be plenty of refreshment and snack booths along the 20-kilometer distance along with fun activities. The Stumpfwaldbahn (starting at Eiswoog) will be in operation. Don’t miss out on this great day in the Palatinate forest for bikers, inline skaters, scooter riders, skateboarders and pedestrians.
ILLUMININALE (BLAZES OF LIGHT AND FESTIVAL FUN)

When the days gradually become shorter, we need a light to light up the late summer darkness. The Illuminale not only brings us this light but also an entire host of radiance to downtown Trier — and in the form of extravagant light installations, walking acts and hands-on activities. The light festival will be held around the Cathedral, in the triangle of Windstrasse, Sieh um Dich, Rindertanz Square, and Flanderstrasse and will offer food services, drinks, and entertainment along with many places and installations to admire. Make sure to visit Germany’s second largest wine fest in Neustadt. The fest offers excellent wines, local specialties, rides, vendors and crowning of the German wine queen on Oct 6. OKTOBERFEST

The world’s largest beer fest is scheduled to start with the parade of the brewery horses and tapping of the keg on Sat. 16. Enjoy Germany’s second largest beer fest with exciting rides, giant beer tents, vendors, food and drink. The fest is somewhat smaller than Oktoberfest in Munich and more relaxed.
