The Athlete of the Year award program recognizes the top male and
female athletes in the Air Force. In U.S. Air Forces in Europe,
athletes are nominated by the bases and forwarded to HQ USAFE where
packages are judged by an impartial panel. USAFE nominees are then
submitted for competition at the Air Force level.
Applications for Athlete of the Year must be received by the USAFE Fitness and Sports offices no later than Sept. 1.
Nomination packages must include all required information to be
considered. Nominations should be for outstanding athletes who
have excelled at intramural, varsity, Air Force, and in some cases,
international levels of competition.
Criteria for nomination and selection in priority will be based on
athletic accomplishments between Oct. 2005 and Sept. 2006, the value of
contributions to a team or as an individual, other athletic
accomplishments during the period, (i.e. military awards, decorations,
civic recognitions, etc.), and athletic accomplishments from the
preceding two years.
Last year’s USAFE Male Athlete of the Year was Staff Sgt. Lorenzo
Peterson and the Female Athlete of the Year was Senior Airman Jennifer
Brooks. Both were from Ramstein.
