USAFE awards announced

U.S. Air Forces in Europe recently announced winners for the command.
The 38th Combat Support Center at Sembach won the Hoyt S. Vandenberg Award, which recognizes the most outstanding contribution to national defense in the field of aerospace education or training. The 38th CSC will now compete in the 2005 Air Force Association Aerospace Awards.

The 435th Logistics Readiness Squadron won the 2004 Headquarters USAFE Material Management Flight of the Year award in recognition of its accomplishments. In 2004, the squadron re-established an aircraft parts store with more than 550 line items and processed 750 wheels and tires impacting aircraft supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In the 2004 USAFE Safety Awards, the 86th Airlift Wing won Outstanding Unit Safety Award. From the 86th AW, Capt. Joey Dible won Flight Safety Officer of the Year and Master Sgt. John Smith won Flight Safety Noncommissioned Officer of the Year.

Master Sgt. Althea Smith, 435th Air Base Wing, won Ground Safety Technician of the Year. From the 38th Combat Support Wing, Staff Sgt. Theodore Saxman won Ground Safety Representative of the Year and Tech. Sgt. Michael Smith won Weapons Safety Noncommissioned Officer of the Year.

In the 2004 USAFE-level Medical Service Awards, Senior Airman Roxanne Vallesteros, 435th Medical Group, won Health Service Management Airman of the Year. Tech. Sgt. Brian Santos, 435th MDG, won Health Service Management NCO of the Year. From Headquarters USAFE Command Surgeon’s office, Tech. Sgt. Jesse Moreno won Outstanding Global Heath NCO of the Year and Maj. Editha Heberlein won Outstanding Global Heath Field Grade Officer of the Year.

In USAFE’s Public Affairs achievement awards, the 435th Air Base Wing Public Affairs office won Best Media Relations Program. From the 435th ABW, Senior Airman Nicole Spence won Outstanding Public Affairs Airman and Capt. Philip Ulmer won Outstanding Public Affairs Company Grade Officer. From HQ USAFE/PA, Capt. Kimberly Layne won Outstanding PA Company Grade Officer, Senior Master Sgt. Kenneth Fidler won Outstanding PA Senior NCO, Master Sgt. Mona Ferrell won Outstanding PA NCO and Maj. Audrey Burkel won Outstanding Reserve Component PA Officer. USAFE PA also won two USAFE Special Achievement awards for single planned events during Silver Flag Operations and Exercise Austere Challenge.

From the USAFE Band, Master Sgt. Steven Eklunk won Outstanding Band Senior NCO, Staff Sgt. Timothy Blake won Outstanding Band NCO and Senior Airman Jeremy Pfeffer won Outstanding Band Airman.
All USAFE winners will now compete at the Air Force level.
