Leaders from the U.S. Army Reserve Command and U.S. Army Europe observed a foreign consequence management static display and capabilities demonstration provided by the Soldiers of the 7th Civil Support Command July 15 on Daenner Kaserne.
The visiting leaders were Maj. Gen. Richard C. Longo, the deputy commanding general of U.S. Army Europe; Maj. Gen. John R. O’Connor, the commanding general of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command; and Maj. Gen. Luis R. Visot, U.S. Army Reserve Command operations deputy commanding general.
The visiting generals observed the close working relationship between the two subordinate units of the 7th CSC, the 773rd Civil Support Team and the 196th Medical Support Unit, as personnel from both units responded to a simulated Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear event as part of the demonstration.
A team from the 209th Digital Liaison Detachment, also a subordinate of the 7th CSC, demonstrated their liaison and Battle Command Sustainment Support System skills, which provides technological capabilities not held by many allied and partner nations.
“(The) 209th DLD provides a critical link between the host nations and between U.S. systems to provide a common operating picture so folks can actually see where the different types of response forces are,” said Brig. Gen. Paul M. Benenati, the commanding general of the 7th CSC.
The guests were also apprised as to how the 361st Civil Affairs Brigade works to ensure humanitarian aid assets and disaster response efforts are rapidly coordinated while keeping information flowing and ensuring it is disseminated correctly.
“I think we are very fortunate to have the 7th CSC physically located in Europe,” Visot said. “It is part of our strategy as we plan, prepare and provide. They (the 7th CSC) meet the needs of whatever capability is needed by the commanders of U.S. European, Africa or U.S. Army Europe in terms of consequence management, humanitarian aid and disaster relief.”
Visot praised the Soldiers and capabilities of the 7th CSC and emphasized the Army Reserve commitment to the American people.
