The Vogelweh Teen Center, located in Bldg. 2059, provides a variety of camps and free open recreation activities where teens can learn new skills this summer.
“I enjoy coming to the teen center, it keeps me active and I get to hang out with my friends,” said 13-year-old Hannah Sherbet. “The staff is really nice and likes hanging out with us. Some of my favorite things to do is play football, pingpong and other games with my friend Carter; sometimes I even get to win.”
Camps such as Missoula Children’s Theatre, Zumba, science camp, Outdoor Adventure, Sideline Sports, and Fear Factor camps are now enrolling with no costs to participants.
Open recreation activities are also available from 2 to 6 p.m. through July 24.
A teen Outdoor Adventure Camp is scheduled for Aug. 4 to 8. Cost is $110. Teens will get the opportunity to take on activities such as a ropes course, swimming, Europa Park and more.
“I like the Youth Program because you can hang out with friends, play games and have a snack,” said 14-year-old Zachary Bush. “You can also get involved in clubs to put things on your college resume, or share your leadership skills that you have learned with others. I’m in the Youth Employment Skills Program; it’s fun and you earn money for college while learning different skills. I’m working with the sports program to learn how to maintain fields and how scheduling affects each sport for games.”
The Youth Employment Skills Program is an on-base volunteer program for high school students, including those transitioning to their freshmen year, who are dependents of active-duty Air Force members.
The program offers the opportunity to gain valuable work skills while accruing up to $1,500 toward their postsecondary education, and providing teens the means to have a positive impact on the community.
