Pumpkin weighing championship
Just like in 2015, the Gartenschau Kaiserslautern offers its annual Rhineland-Palatinate Pumpkin Weighing Championship at 1 p.m. Sunday near the entrance. Pumpkin breeders show off and weigh their pumpkins. Prizes are awarded to the heaviest and nicest-looking pumpkins. The pumpkin display, under the motto “Royal,” continues through the end of the season, Oct. 31. The Gartenschau, also known as dino park, is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Vintage vehicles
The first vintage vehicle meeting under the motto “Forever Young” takes place Saturday in Zweibruecken. At 9 a.m., participating vehicles, more than 30 years old, are registered at Herzogplatz. A skills driving contest is until noon. Then, vehicles ride through the town to Schlossplatz. On Alexanderplatz, caterers serve authentic food and drinks. The Rhythm Kings start playing at noon and the Rockabilly Hellraisers perform at 6 p.m. The Rose Queen passes out trophies and certificates at 5 p.m. For details, visit www.zweibruecken.de.
