The Kaiserslautern District of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools recently announced the selection of Thomas Whitney as the 2009 Teacher of the Year.
Mr. Whitney is a mathematics teacher at Ramstein High School. In making the announcement, District Superintendent Lawanna Mangleburg cited Mr. Whitney’s ability to continually individualize instruction to ensure student success. Most noteworthy was his use of real-life situations and various forms of advanced technologies to
engage students in mathematical discussion and enable them to
obtain results and formulate conclusions.
Mr. Whitney is a past recipient of the annual Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. He will now represent all Kaiserslautern District teachers at the DODEA-wide Teacher of the Year competition.
