The German-American and International Women’s Club Kaiserslautern holds its 44th annual Pfennig Bazaar March 1 to 3 in the Industriehalle (industrial hall) on the Kaiserslautern Garden Fair grounds.
***image1***“This year, we hold the bazaar in Industriehalle, and not like last year in Jean-Schoen-Halle,” said the club’s American second vice president Pamela Miod. “It’s bigger, lighter and warmer than Jean-Schoen-Halle,” she added.
Donations can be dropped off 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 23 and 26, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 24 at the industrial hall.
“We ask people to please donate well-kept and clean clothes, curtains, shoes, household items, electrical appliances, toys and books,” said Ulrike Reichardt, the club’s German second vice president.
Bulk items such as furniture, mattresses and skis will not be accepted.
“We also like to get baked goods, and we still need volunteers, who help sorting out donations and with the actual selling of items,” said Ms. Miod.
Donors and visitors have free access through the main entrance on Schoenstrasse and can exit on the opposing side, Forellenstrasse. Industriehalle is the big brick building behind the Papasote restaurant.
The annual Pfennig Bazaar is known as the biggest flea market in the West Palatinate. Its name originates in the former German currency, which was Deutsch Mark and Pfennigs, today euro and cents.
“Each year, a lot of people come to check on items which we offer at reasonable prices,” said Mrs. Reichardt.
The Pfennig Bazaar is the club’s biggest fundraising event. All profits will be donated to various German, American and international charities, the University of Kaiserslautern for their Student Exchange Program and the GAIWC’s Youth Program for American and German students.
The Pfennig Bazaar is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 1 and 2, and and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 3.
